What’s new on social networks in 2025: everything you need to know
The year 2025 is marked by several significant developments on the major social networks. From rethinking content formats to optimizing user experience, here’s a roundup of the latest updates impacting content creators and brands alike.
Instagram: greater flexibility and personalization
A new image format
On January 20, 2025, Instagram abandoned the classic square format in favor of a 4:5 ratio, offering more visual space and a better immersive experience. This makes it possible to maintain good image quality without having to crop. It is therefore essential to adjust your infographics to this new format to optimize their impact and readability on the platform.
Longer Reels
Instagram Reels can now last up to 3 minutes, allowing creators to further develop their content. This extension enables Instagram users to post short, yet immersive videos, a format that is becoming increasingly popular.
A reorganizable profile grid
Instagram is preparing a long-awaited feature: the reorganization of the profile grid. Creators will be able to move their posts around as they please, removing the constraint of scheduling content to keep a harmonious feed. The profile interface will no longer be exclusively chronological. In addition, Stories will be assigned a specific tab in the grid, as is already the case for Real Stories.
Improved private messages
A number of changes have recently been made to Instagram’s messaging system. Messages can now be scheduled up to 29 days in advance. Automatic translation is also available for private messages. Also, users can now send each other music excerpts of up to 30 seconds, so as not to compete with streaming platforms. A final new feature is the ability to pin a message or image to a discussion, so that it can be accessed at any time.
YouTube: Shorts take over
Since January 9, 2025, YouTube has reinforced its strategy around short content. All videos under 3 minutes in length are now automatically converted to Shorts, making them easier to discover and showcase. In addition, the maximum duration of Shorts has been extended to 3 minutes, enabling creators to capture the attention of their audience without switching to a longer format.
TikTok: simplified scheduling
TikTok has introduced post scheduling directly from the mobile application, via TikTok Studio. This new feature means creators don’t have to go through the computer to schedule their content.
LinkedIn: enhanced engagement for creators
A re-evaluated Top Voice badge
From now on, the Top Voice badge will be re-evaluated every 6 months. Users wishing to keep it will need to maintain regular activity, share relevant analysis and generate engagement.
Priority to videos
LinkedIn has chosen to give greater prominence to videos, confirming their central role in the dissemination of professional content and audience engagement.
Facebook: end of live video storage
As of February 19, 2025, live videos on Facebook will be automatically deleted 30 days after broadcast (previously they were kept indefinitely). Meta justifies this choice by the low viewing rate of live videos after one month. Automatic deletion will reduce storage costs. It will nevertheless be possible to keep lives, provided you do so before they are automatically deleted.
In conclusion, social networks will continue to evolve in 2025. This will take the form of more flexible formats, optimized tools for creation, more emphasis on videos and new possibilities for content organization. Stay tuned to adapt your strategies and take advantage of these new features!
