Change of program!
My name is Laura-May and I am currently a Graphic Designer at Middle since March 2022. I’ve had a journey full of twists and turns to get where I am today, and I’m sharing it with you in this short blog post.
A dream program
When I graduated high school, I was determined to go into medicine. It was only logical to study health science in college, which I did. However, I quickly realized that I did not have a passion for this field. It led to me questioning myself for a long time on my choice of University program, taking into account my interests and passions. I’ve always been very good at math, so I went on to pursue a bachelor’s degree in mathematics. After some more thinking, I realized I didn’t belong in this program either, and I left.
A realistic program
The disinterest I had in the mathematics program made me think about my ambitions. While choosing another university program, I took into consideration all my recent reflections. I decided to enroll in a Bachelor of Industrial Design (object design). After my first week, I knew right away I was in the right place, or at least on the right path. I also realized I had hated my higher education studies up until that moment. In this program, I learned the basics of design, 3D modeling, drawing… After one year, I came to the conclusion that it was not exactly the right program for me, because the drawing part took too much place.
An ideal program
At that point, I decided to consult a guidance counselor who strongly recommended that I go back to college to study technology, such as multimedia integration and 3D animation. I enrolled in a multimedia integration technique in college. I loved this program from beginning to end. I had the chance to get to know the world of video games, programming, website and mobile application creation, video editing, photography and graphic design. During my last semester, I had to do an internship.
From studies to reality
I had a very disorganized first internship experience, and I made the decision to leave and look for another internship. That’s when I came across Middle’s internship offer in graphic design. When I arrived, I immediately felt at ease and I knew I would fit right in with the team. This proved to be true, as after my internship ended, I was hired at Middle as a full-time Graphic Designer.
In conclusion, I can truly say that I found both the job and the work environment I always dreamed of, with inspiring and dedicated women, thanks to a program that really fit me. My work experience only confirms my great interest in graphic design and the technology field, and I am enormously grateful for this golden opportunity.
